Our 15-day trip brings you the highlights of Uganda’s Agro-Tourism: where you expect to interface with a number of organically grown fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, coffee, and plantations, among others. Expect to engage in many activities such as planting, harvesting, tasting as many organically produced and fresh foods as possible.   Expect to interface with smallholder farmers, understand Uganda’s agriculture which employs over 70% of Ugandans.

Day to Day program
Day 1:Entebbe Airport- Entebbe

Arrival at Entebbe Airport. Your guide will be there waiting for you. Pick up and proceed to your accommodation.

Day 2: Bate Agro-Tours Farm; Luweero 

After breakfast, we drive to Luwero district to Bate Ago-Tour Farm and other neighboring communities especially engaged in farming of organic pineapples. You will learn more about pineapple farming and can take a walk around the community in the afternoon (optional). It is said that this region has the sweetest organic pineapples in the world. You will participate in various activities at the pineapples farms including hunting for and harvesting which you will be allowed to eat and carry home. You will also learn various preservation and packaging and understand how they are able to leave these farms and export to Europe, USA, and Asia. At this farm and community, you will be able to see many species of birds.  

Day 3: Nakwero Mixed Farm; Wakiso 

You will be able to engage in various farm activities such as planting a few plants, caring for animals such as cows, rabbits, chicken, ducks, quails, sheep, pigs. At this farm, you will see about 50 ostriches, and they may entertain you depending on their moods. You may see the males singing and entertaining the females before the mating exercise. If you want to ride horses, donkeys, this is a perfect place. You will also move around the farm museum, especially showcasing the various products that have been previously held by the farm proprietor. An Organically prepared lunch will be served!

Day 4: Travel to Mt. Elgon in Kapchorwa, Stopover in Jinja – the Source of the Nile 

Transfer to the Mt. Elgon. On our way, we have a stopover in Jinja at the famous The Source of the R. Nile. We will proceed and reach Kapchorwa, the slopes of Mt. Elgon famously known for the production of Arabic coffee and long distance runners such as Stephen Kiprotich, Joshua Cheptegei among others. In the evening, we shall visit the higher altitude training Centre and interact with community members especially those engaged in the game of sports 

Day 5: Arabic Coffee Experience; Mt. Elgon 

After breakfast, we shall begin our lifetime experience named Coffee-Experience. In this experience, you will be an expert in the coffee value chain. You will engage in many activities such as raising coffee seedlings, coffee planting (you will own a coffee farm in Uganda), coffee plantation wedding, coffee harvesting, coffee drying, coffee processing, coffee roasting, coffee grinding and many others until you brew your own coffee. You will learn and understand how smallholder farmers such as women and the processes it goes through to reach food stores and supermarkets in America, Europe and other areas, grow coffee. After an organically prepared lunch, we shall visit sipi fall, the longest falls in Uganda. There will be many activities here including abseiling (optional)

Day 6:Travel to Fort portal 

After breakfast we drive to Fort portal Tourism City. Along this travel route, there are many agro-tourism activities and we shall have stop over points 

Day 7:BIGLAD Agri-tourism Farm; Fort portal 

After breakfast, we shall drive to Buglad Agri-Tourism Farm Located in Kanyambeho Village, Kiko Town council, Kabarole District. At this farm, we shall engage in various activities such as Tea planting, macadamia, apples, tree nurseries, mangoes, piggery, mushrooms, quails, zero grazing, vanilla, banana plantations, rabbitry, among others. Fish Pond in backyard farm, Background Fish Farming Silage Zero Grazing Rabbits in cages, where we collect urine, which we use as pesticides Organic urine fertilizer Bio-Diversity, using crops to act as pesticides, Mushroom growing and dehydrating them for value addition. You will be able to know various organic production technologies and engage in them. You will be able to eat organically prepared foods and fresh and organic juices

Day 8:Excel Hort Agribusiness Incubator; Mbarara 

Located in Mbarara city, this is an amazing agro-tourism site with various farm practices, and technologies. Here you will see many types of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, animals, beekeeping, among others. Here you will also visit an African Agriculture Museum displaying various tools, equipment that were common in Uganda before the intervention of foreigners. You will be able to interact with farm workers who are knowledgeable about the farming practices in Uganda.  

Day 9:Delta Bees & Ankole Longhorn Cows; Bushenyi 

Have you heard about organically harvested honey? Have you heard about cows with the longest horns, have you wished to milk, boil and taste the best organic milk? Then this day will be the best day for your trip. You will visit Delta Bees and engage in various activities such as honey harvesting, manufacture of beehives, packaging of honey, and you will be able to learn about the science of bees. Ankole horned cows are said to have the longest horns and with other interesting characteristics in addition to good milk. In the afternoon, you will be able to spend it with cows with the animal keepers engaging in various activities such as milking cows with hands unlike machines. 

Day 10:Visit Banana Plantations in the Equator Line; Ibanda 

Banana commonly known as Matooke is the staple food in Uganda. It’s eaten in many ways. There are many types, some for food, some for beverages, and some to be eaten as deserts, and many other types. This part of the country produces the best quality bananas and is expected to reach Europe and USA. This day will be spent in a banana plantation engaging in various activities. Interesting is that you will taste some of the products where the equator lines crosses. Do they taste different/ is the taste the same? Come and Know!

Day 11: Bushenyi Youth Demonstration Farm; Bushenyi 

This local demonstration farm has many organic technologies that support smallholder farmers to increase productivity. You will engage in many farm activities such as organic vegetable production, sugarcane, collection of local eggs from local chicken with pure yellow. You will see the relationship between animal husbandry and crop husbandry where waste from animals is used for biogas production and then as manure to fertilize crops. The tour guides at this farm are very well informed about agricultural trends and you will enjoy hearing and or learning from them about their experience in farming.

Day 11: KWIFABI Eco-Farms; Rukungiri 

Have you ever fished? Have you ever fed fish? Do you know you can fish, and then be supported to prepare fish as a source on your own using local energy? If you want to engage in this experience, come for this experience. You will have an understanding about fishing, and be provided with hooks so that you’re able to fish on your own. You will be allowed to cook the fish, which you will have hooked from the fishpond at this farm. You will be also be guided to a farm tour and community walk where you will see many farm activities and understand the Kiga culture

Day 12:Medical Plants, Pygmies Culture & Teas Harvesting around Bwindi; Kanungu

In this trail, you will interact with old men and women who have great knowledge and understanding of traditional medicine using traditional plants. They’ll explain to you different plants and what they treat. You will also visit the Pygmies (Batwa) community and see how they like and or how they used to live. You will interact with their elders and take you through activities such as iron smelting, honey harvesting, among others. In the evening, you will also be engaged in the tea plantation activities such as tea harvesting

Day 13:Travel to Entebbe

After that you will head to Entebbe for the departure flight.

Day 2: Bate Agro-Tours Farm; Luweero
